Just So’s Y’all Know…
Edible - But You’ll Die, After…Taken August 9, 2008 with Canon PowerShot A550
She gave
me
my hat
and she showed
me the door…Somebody found Where the Walls are Soft by Googling “knickety knackety lyrics”, which piqued my curiosity, as I’d thought Ruby had made up that song… so I Googled it myself, and found the following, described as “most annoying song now and forever”.
It was also the song sung by the school-children in the Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds; something else I didn’t know, which really bugs me, because I love that movie. I should have recognized the song when Ruby sang it.
I married my wife
In the month of June
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowI brought her home
By the light of the moon
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowShe combs her hair
But once a year
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowWith every stroke
She shed a tear
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Rustical quality
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowShe swept up her floor
But once a year
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowShe said that brooms
Were much too dear
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowShe churns her butter
In her dad’s old boot
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowAnd for a dash
She’d use her foot
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowThe butter it came out
All grizzle-y gray
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowThe cheese it took legs
And ran away
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowShe let the critter
Get away
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowI asked my wife
To wash the floor
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowShe gave me my hat
And she showed me the door
Ristle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, nowRistle-tee, rostle-tee
Now, now, nowRistle-tee, rostle-tee
Hey, donnie-dostle-tee
Knickety-knackety
Rustical quality
Willow-tree, wallow-tee
Now, now, now
I called Ruby, accusingly, and she sang most of it to me, but without the “ristle-tee, rostle-tee”, after telling me that she never said she’d made it up. She’d just changed the words of a song her uncle used to sing.
Anyway… that’s it. Slow day.

I love the caption under the mushroom!
Les Says: Thanks, Louise - coming up with them all is sometimes frustrating, especially the flowers.

I LOVE captain vegetable. That’s a contender for this years halloween costume even
Les Says: No way! You mean you’ve finally given up trying to sell that letter “O”?!

thanks for stopping by my place when david listed me. what fun to come here and find this silly little song. though the image of churning butter with one’s foot in an old boot is now indelibly imprinted on my mind. ew! lol
Les Says: Yeah, my stomach does a little flip at the image, too. Blah.

She churns her butter in her dad’s old boot…yummy! I hope Ruby doesn’t have any experience with that.
Les Says: No, I think she was safe from foot-churned butter growing up…. you should have heard her laugh when I read that verse to her, though - she hadn’t heard that one.

Rustical quality indeed! I LIKE it! That and your deadly toadstool.
Thanks, Elle! It does look pretty deadly, doesn’t it?

Well, that will never be one of my favorites!
Les Says: I can see how it would get annoying if sung over and over… but I still love to hear Ruby sing her version.

That’s a pretty long song to be in the movie. Was the whole thing in there or just the beginning. You know, like how the theme song to “Hawaii 5-0″ is in Shrek 2, but just the bugle part in the beginning?
Les Says: Haven’t the slightest, CG - I’m going to have to go “library” the movie to find out, myself. At the same time, I will be bookmarking with these really wicked-cool CardioGirl biz cards I received in the mail today.
Thanks, Betch - made my whole day.

Interesting song. I don’t think I ever heard it before.
I have given your blog a special mention in mine for your contributions to the blogging world. I don’t comment often, but I do visit a lot!
Les Says: Wow! Thank you so much, Margaret! I shall be right over to bask in the glory.

Hi Les,
First…I must say how happy I am to have found you on Stumble!
And thank you sincerely for dropping by my blog AND leaving a comment….it is so much appreciated.
Great nature shot! I find many of my thoughts just “Pop-Up” there….in the woodland…
As for the song of the day (lol)…it’s amazing that Hitchcock took time to look (listen) at(to) so many and then chose this one…He always did everything for a reason…I hope you can unearth his decision making process on this one!
Les Says: LOL! I’m really not certain that I WANT to delve far enough into Hitchcock’s psyche to unearth his decision-making process. The man was a genius… and I think most geniuses (genius-i?) might be crazy. The sinister kind of crazy, not the cute kind, in Hitchcock’s case.
Welcome to Where the Walls are Soft! I’m the weird kind of crazy, but I’m not dangerous. As far as I know, anyway.
