Narnia at the Farm

Everybody look for the Lion…

I’m sleeping with the dogs at the farm for the next 10 nights, and keeping the home fires burning for my brother. He has run away to Hawaii, the shit.

After swearing at the coffee maker that I couldn’t get to “coffee” (again – this happened to me this past summer when I “farm-sat”, and this time, Aubrey showed me step-by-step what to do – nothin’. His coffee maker will not make me a single cup of coffee.), and swearing at the wood-pile that didn’t want to give up a few sticks of wood to get the fire going in the the airtight stove (at least I won that battle), I took the dogs out into a Winter Wonderland.

Kaylee was stunned, ecstatic, and overjoyed with the amount of snow at the farm. She plowed non-stop through snow up to her neck in places. Bert and Ernie caught a bit of her joy bug and romped around with her, when normally, they usually all kind of cut away in different directions during morning runs.

Aubrey also showed me how to get Netflix up and running on his bedroom TV yesterday, you know, so I could take my new “No Netflix” lifestyle and just pitch it out a window and get all addicted again on Night 1. “You don’t even need to sign in!” he exclaimed. “See? Just turn it on!”

“Sign in to your account.” Is actually what comes up on that screen when I turn it on.

Thanks, Aub. Either your instructions suck, or I have become Tech Stupid (and that’s very possible).

I did get this glorious photo, though – which is now a Christmas Card at Les Becker Designs (you should buy one to send to your Gramma).

And I got the fire going, Former Girl Guide that I am! The farmhouse had better still be standing when I get back out there tonight.

How to Piss Your Father Off from 250 Miles Away…

Matt-Falls-2006
This was my Dad in a good mood…

He really was a good guy – you just didn’t want to piss him off. I was an expert at pissing him off, whether I meant to or not. If there was a way to screw things up, and piss my dad off, I would manage it.

Before Kyla was born, her dad and I would go down to Teeny-Tiny Town for Christmas every year. He had two kids from his first marriage, so that made arrangements difficult. Worse, I worked in retail – in a mall – and I had two days to celebrate in: Christmas Day and Boxing Day. And those poor kids had a lot of places to be.

Our Christmas routine tended to look like this:

Trojan Moose
Taken July 7, 2008 with Canon PowerShot A550

Yeah, yeah, I know I said I *hate* these things not two posts ago, but…The Best Memes in Life Are Stolen. Elle said that, so it must be true.

Stole this from Elle, who stole it from Angelika, who stole it from Why Are You Stalking Me?, who stole it from someone else. 😀

— No.

2. Favorite late night snack?
— Mashed potatoes. And beer.

3. Do you own a gun?

The Landlady

Ruby Strikes Again…

…strikes me funny that is. Another little collection from “The Landlady”.

“She still hasn’t forgiven me for that time I hit her over the head with a shovel.”

“I was black and blue from all the pokin’ around.”
(About a nurse drawing blood…)

“I had the stupidest dream. It was Christmas, and all these dead people showed up. You should’ve SEEN all the presents!”

“I was just beside myself. I should’ve got a lot more done.”

…and after she realized why I was laughing so hard…

“Don’t you write that down! I didn’t mean to say that.”
