I have kind of/sort of duplicated Ruby’s kitchen table, complete with space heater underneath, in my own small way.
Ruby’s table was a safe space for me, and I miss it dreadfully. My table is much smaller, but I can feel her here in spirit, so I think it was a good idea, even if it did end up in a strange spot.
Emily Sarah – please note the crib board – we need to test out the card-playing vibe soon!
They have arrived! Carson made himself right at home with the Cheerios… I don’t mind that so much – but he has learned to put his own boots on recently. He has also learned that Cheerios being squished under one’s boot makes a very satisfying, crunchy mess.
While Mom went out on the town with Aunty Em, Carson and I went to visit Gramma Dot. He went straight to her baking cupboard and got out the measuring cups (he also knows where to find the soda crackers, and is not shy about bringing them to Gramma Dot so that she can get him some).
As the video shows, the latest fave thing at Gramma Dot’s house is trying to figure out how to work the walker. One time, Ruby’s grandson put Carson on the seat and Ruby drove him all over the house. He’s trying to figure out how to get it moving now on his own, but so far, none of us have cracked and shown him how to work the brakes…
We had a good visit – Carson wore himself out, but of course, would not admit it. Ruby and I, on the other hand are tuckered enough to just crawl into bed now.
Sunday Dinner-and-a-Movie at Ruby’s last night was disrupted, interrupted and kerfluffled – but in the most fun possible way…
It was my turn to cook. I made a rather passable broccoli and cheese stuffed meatloaf, served up with home-grown potatoes (that I growed my own self!) and a can of corn – I don’t grow corn, canned or otherwise. Continue reading “Stories Beat a Movie Every Time…”
My big project for 2014 (aside from becoming “Independently Self-Sufficient”, that is) was to be able to feed the household without having to purchase any vegetable I could grow myself.
Actually, the garden was a major part of the “Independently Self-Sufficient” plan – I just knew damned well that I could only just begin the project this year. I could only plant the stuff, and hope that in a year or two, I had learned enough and grown the garden large enough that we wouldn’t need to purchase items like tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and blueberries, melons, peas… you know – the kind of stuff that people around here manage to grow in sufficient amounts in their backyards.
My main concern was that gardeners around here have a big one-up on me.
